Wynn Pennington of MotoVino Wines with JayMan! What a gorgeous day. The rally festivities began in the late afternoon at The Happy Gnome restaurant. Wynn Pennington, of MotoVino wines, came up from Atlanta Georgia along with his friend Jay. They "took over" the kitchen at The Happy Gnome and provided a sampling of MotoVino wine along with some outstanding finger food. The featured event of the evening was a scavenger hunt.

There were 7 teams of four scooterists. Each team received a list of things to grab and digital photos to take. There was a point system listed on the hand-out and time was limited. The teams did a great job and I think it's safe to say that the hunt was a resounding success. CLICK HERE to see a copy of the scavenger hunt hand-out. It's worth a look, as it will help explain some of the pictures shown below. The pictures were downloaded (thanks to Dave Harrington of JustGottaScoot.com) and the points were tabulated. Team TNR/TNA were the winners with 210 points. Next was the PRR team with 112 points, followed by the Dorks at 105, the Girl Squad at 100, the Muscooteers at 92, Hells Satans at 86, and the Associates at 29. Below are just a very few of the pictures from the scavenger hunt.

The Night of Many Rides

Another beautiful day and the rally festivities began with four, count 'em, four separate scooter rides. There was a ride for scooterists who had not ridden much (if at all) in groups called the Newbie Ride. There was a ride for twist-and-go automatic scooters, a ride for modern manual shift scooters, and there was a vintage scooter ride. The rides all started at different locations and all ended at Bedlam Theatre - the gathering spot for Friday night.

Newbie ride - Kevin Kocur of Minnesota Motorcycle Monthly fame (sorry, I meant, of course, infamy) led the newbie ride which left from Scooter Squad on Lyndale near Franklin. The ride meandered around the Kenwood and Uptown areas and included a brief stop the the Mary Tyler Moore house in Kenwood. There were well over 20 scooters.

Automatic Ride - Bob Hedstrom of Scooterville led the automatic ride which departed from (surprise) Scooterville.

Modern Manual Shift Ride -

The Rain Starts

Rattle My Bones Saturday Big Ride starts at Yarusso Brothers in St. PaulAfter two perfect late summer days, Saturday rolled around bringing with it cloudy skies and rain. The lack of cooperation from the weather department did not stop the Rattle My Bones scooterists. The day began at Yarusso's in St. Paul with a fabulous breakfast. The "big" Saturday ride was scheduled to leave at 10:00AM and the rain started just before that. Oh sure, there were some last-minute rain suits made (plastic trash bags and duct tape), and the rain kept the number of riders down to about 80, but it was still a GREAT ride. Kent Aldrich led the ride on his mint-green Stella. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that Kent has led a large group ride. We all know how shy he is, after all a guy with 47 mirrors, air horns and a large clock display on his horn cover must REALLY hate attention... (cough, cough)....

Kent and the All Mod Cons Scooter Club had a really nice route planned that was shortened a bit in concession to the weather. Blue Cat Garage provided the chase vehicle and it was only needed twice for relatively minor mechanical break-downs.

It was a wet gaggle of scooterists that pulled into Scooterville for the afternoon festivities. The rain may have soaked through our clothes, but our spirits weren't dampened. Bob and his crew at Scooterville did their best to accommodate us "inside" as much as possible. There was a wonderful lunch from Dino's and the Gymkhana went ahead as planned. Well, except it was tough to keep the flaming hoop lit in the rain.

Yeah, a flaming hoop. The Gymkhana started off with a sort of tractor pull for scooters. There was a wooden sled on wooden runners, a sponsor sitting inside, and the contestants had to drag it a specified distance in the shortest time. From there we moved on to the more usual weaving, jumping and ladder running of the gymkhana. No fooling, there was a flaming hoop and a pretty cool water hazard. Then came the slow race which Jessie won on his black Stella, beating out the slowest automatic scooter by a wide margin. I swear there were times when I didn't think he was moving. There were some drag races AND paintball jousting.

When all was said and done, Jessie won the slow race and Pooter won the overall gymkhana. Gymkhana pictures:

Saturday evening's gathering was at the Triple Rock with DJs, live music, more raffles, and general fun.
